An earthquake measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale struck the Bay of Bengal at 7:26 am today, the National Center for Seismology (NCS) reported. The quake was one of several seismic events recorded in the wider South Asia region in recent days.

In a separate incident, a 3.9-magnitude earthquake was detected in Tajikistan on Tuesday at a depth of 75 kilometers.

A 4.4 magnitude earthquake struck Bajhang district of Nepal in Sudur-Paschim district on November 30.

The epicenter of the earthquake that struck Nepal at 12:09 pm (local time) was located on Mount Saibal in the Bajhang district, according to the National Center for Earthquake Monitoring and Research.

NEMRC said the tremors were also felt by people living in nearby areas, including Bajura, in the westernmost province.
