The USGS confirmed that its ShakeAlert system mistakenly sent out an earthquake alert east of Dayton at 8:06 a.m.

“This was a false earthquake warning. There was no earthquake. There was no earthquake. Leon County officials confirmed the false alarm and urged residents not to call 911. “There is currently no danger to the public,” the county said in a notice.

Dayton is located in Leon County, just east of Carson City, about 150 miles from the California border. While the alert briefly caused confusion, experts maintain there is no threat and no damage was reported.
