A 4.5 magnitude earthquake occurred early in the morning of Saturday, December 6, 2025, at 3:37 a.m. local time near Laoag, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos, Philippines, reported the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS). According to preliminary data, the earthquake was located at a shallow depth of 10 km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deep earthquakes because they are closer to the surface. The exact size, epicenter and depth of the earthquake may be revised over the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review the data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Located 21 km from the epicenter, Laoag (population 112,100) is 23 km away, Panjid (population 48,300) is 48 km away, Pantai (population 37,100) is 61 km away, and Vigan (population 48,500) is 62 km away.
