7.0 magnitude earthquake felt in western Yukon: Earthquakes in Canada

A magnitude 7.0 earthquake could be felt Saturday afternoon, Dec. 6, 2025, in western Yukon, according to the Canadian Earthquake Service.

The quake reportedly occurred at approximately 1:41 p.m. Yukon time, as indicated by the Canadian Seismological Service.

RCMP in Yukon received two 911 calls reporting the event following the earthquake, according to spokesperson Calista McLeod.

Yukon Highway and Public Works crews are assessing whether the quake affected infrastructure, spokeswoman Christine Johnson said.

Yukon Energy Corporation posted on Facebook to notify the public that its crews are checking hydro facilities.

News reporters at a downtown restaurant and in Riverdale could feel the shakes at that time.

Reports of shaking being felt are also hitting the news from other parts of the city.

The quake originated near the border of Yukon, British Columbia and Alaska, according to Alison Baird, a seismologist with Natural Resources Canada.

It was felt at least as far as Whitehorse and possibly beyond, Baird said.

Several aftershocks have been reported. Bird said people are reporting items falling off shelves.

Aftershocks measuring 5.3 magnitude were recorded, according to the Canadian Earthquake Service.
