Mali coup: UN joins condemnation of military union – BBC News

 



The United Nations has joined in condemning Mali’s military takeover, forcing President Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta to resign. The UN Security Council made similar calls to regional bodies to immediately release all government officials and restore constitutional order. The soldiers said they played to prevent the country from falling further into chaos. They say they will form a civilian government and hold new elections. Mali, a vast country that stretches across the Sahara desert, is among the poorest in the world and has taken on several military personnel.
