DSWD offers assistance to victims of the Masbate earthquake

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said Friday (Aug 21) that aid has been provided to families affected by the magnitude 6.6 earthquake that struck Masbate County on August 18.

This is even after he has reassured the public that it has sufficient resources to increase disaster operations for local government units.

She said 11 families or 40 people are currently seeking temporary shelter at the Katangan National Secondary School.

In coordination with the Philippine Navy, teh DSWD said that about 2,000 family food packages will be delivered to Masbate as part of the DSWD increase support for affected local units, apart from the tents and armored bag rolls that will be sent to Cataingan.

Garcia said more than 22,000 family food packages are available for distribution, 884 of which were pre-positioned in Masbate’s warehouse.

He said the field office had 24.9 million pesos worth of non-food items available and 3 million pesos in reserve funds that could be used for relief operations.

The Ministry of Social Welfare and Development said that it has begun to provide burial and medical assistance to affected families as part of the AICS assistance,

She said there is also an ongoing distribution of cash assistance to verified families with partially damaged and totally damaged homes.

“The Ministry of Social Development and Social Development continues to coordinate with the Masbate Provincial Government for further requests for technical assistance and increased resources to ensure that all the needs of their affected constituents are met,” the statement said.
