The good news is that all of these tremors were barely strong enough to be felt. I wouldn't classify it as bad news or any real cause for concern, but the earthquakes are getting progressively stronger. The last three of the seven quakes were a 2.0 magnitude quake followed by a 2.1 magnitude, and the last one early Monday morning was a 2.2 magnitude.

Let me say again that even a cluster of 7 earthquakes occurring in New Madrid over a short period of time is no cause for concern. We live in one of the most seismically active regions in America. However, this is why we should always be aware of an earthquake and have a contingency plan when/if the New Madrid Fault unleashes a major event. The USGS says there's a reasonable chance this will happen in our lifetime. Preparation is a wise thing to do when you have an active fault system like New Madrid's in your backyard.
