Most of the damage caused by Saturday's earthquake has been repaired

Taipei, Dec. 28 (CNA) Damage from a 7.0-magnitude earthquake that struck Maritime Yilan County late Saturday was largely repaired across northern Taiwan by Sunday, with authorities reporting only minor incidents and no casualties.

Taoyuan International Airport Corporation said lightweight roof debris that fell in lounge areas C1, C5 and C7 and in the baggage areas of Terminal 2 has been removed.

The company operating Taiwan's busiest international airport said two passengers were injured by falling materials, but no one was injured.

Repairs have been completed and airport operations remain normal.

The Yilan County government said that as of 10 a.m. Sunday, the Education Department had not been notified of the damage to school buildings and tourist facilities under its management.

The quake caused a malfunction at the Dong Cao substation in Yilan County, causing a brief power outage affecting 3,465 households, but power was quickly restored in about 10 minutes, the provincial government said.

She added that falling rocks were reported on a slope along the road leading to Qingshui Geothermal Park, but traffic resumed after clearance work.

The Taipei City government said it had received 39 reports of incidents, all classified as minor.

The cases included nine gas leaks, 14 water outages and leaks, one traffic signal damaged, six cases of minor building damage, two walls collapsed, and two cases of people temporarily trapped in elevators.

As of 8 a.m. Sunday, 38 cases had been addressed, and one remaining leak was scheduled to be repaired later in the day by the Taipei Water Department, the city government said.

The New Taipei City Government reported six incidents, including falling tiles, a ruptured water pipeline, ground cracks, earth leakage, and a landslide, with no casualties.

She said that the cleaning and repair work on the Long'an overpass in Xinzhuang District has been completed, while repairs on the slopes on the 106 Provincial Highway in Pingxi District have continued.

The Taoyuan Fire Department said it received a report of people trapped in the elevator, and the incident was resolved without injuries.
