Today's Earthquake: 5.1 magnitude tremors hit Assam's Morigaon a day after the Nepal earthquake

An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale struck Morigaon, Assam, on Monday, January 5. The tremors occurred around 5:15 a.m. Monday, according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS).

“M Equivalent: 5.1, Dated: 01/05/2026 04:17:40 EDT, Latitude: 26.37N, Longitude: 92.29E, Depth: 50 km, Location: Morigaon, Assam,” NCS posted on the X website.

No damages or injuries have been reported so far.

A few hours before the tremors hit Assam, an earthquake measuring 3.9 on the Richter scale struck Gomati, Tripura, at around 3:30 am on Monday.

A 4.3 magnitude earthquake strikes western Nepal

4.3 from Udayapur district in Astran Nepal, Nalpal officials said.

There were no immediate reports of loss of life or damage of any kind due to the earthquake.

The quake occurred at 10:51 pm on Saturday and was epicentered at Pajapati in Udayapur district, according to the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Center (NEMRC).

The tremor was also felt by residents of neighboring areas.

Earlier on Saturday morning, a 4.6-magnitude earthquake struck Taplegunj district in eastern Nepal.
