An earthquake shook northeastern Arizona near a Navajo Nation community of thousands.

The 3.7 magnitude quake occurred around 1:38 p.m. Arizona time on January 9 in an area 26 miles south of Kayenta, a town of more than 5,650 people, according to the USGS website.

The area affected by the quake is located about 225 miles northeast of Phoenix, according to the Federal Geological Survey website.

The location where the quake struck was about 12 miles from the census-designated Navajo community of Chilchinbeto, where about 900 residents live, the site said.
