State Department of Transportation workers 'upskill' with engineering courses at UB – MCEER: Earthquake engineering to extreme events

Employees take graduate-level courses in engineering management and bridge engineering

BUFFALO, NY – A partnership between the University at Buffalo and the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) is equipping the state's transportation workers with valuable, in-demand skills.

These continuing education programs began in the spring of 2024 with 10 NYSDOT employees enrolled in UB's online graduate-level courses in either bridge engineering or engineering management. Since then, dozens of NYSDOT employees have attended a total of 105 classes at UB.

UB officials say these programs are very popular because NYSDOT employees are able to benefit from the university's expertise in subjects that enable them to advance their careers.

For example, the Engineering Management program is ranked among the top 10 programs nationwide by US News & World Report. It is designed for working professionals who want to enhance their technical competency to more effectively assume leadership roles within an organization.
