Gender Analysis of Afghanistan 2025 Earthquakes and Recovery (February 2026) – Afghanistan

introduction

In 2025, Afghanistan experienced two overlapping earthquakes. This gender analysis examines how gender shaped needs, risks and access to assistance across earthquake recovery and response in the eastern and northern regions of Afghanistan.

On August 31, 2025, a 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck eastern Afghanistan along the Nangarhar-Kunar Corridor. The shallow depth exacerbated impacts across Kunar, Laghman, Nangarhar and Nuristan provinces and caused widespread damage to housing and infrastructure. The earthquake affected 29 areas – many of them remote and difficult to reach – and was followed by repeated aftershocks for weeks, complicating aid delivery and prolonging displacement and psychological distress.

Multi-Sectoral Rapid Assessment Form (MSRAF) data collected from 1 to 30 September 2025 from villages in Kunar, Laghman and Nangarhar provinces indicate that women and girls are disproportionately affected: 29,109 women and girls were affected compared to 27,088 men and boys. Of the reported deaths, 1,031 were female and 961 were male; Among those infected, 54 percent are female and 46 percent are male. The Emergency Reform Framework also recorded 421 female-headed households and 1,066 pregnant women among the affected population. The recovery-oriented analysis highlights that women and girls – especially female-headed households – face disproportionate recovery risks, including barriers to accessing durable shelter, basic services and recovery assistance, underscoring the need for a gender-responsive recovery approach to the scale of recovery efforts.

On 3 November 2025, a 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck northern Afghanistan near Mazar-i-Sharif/Kholm, and its effects were reported throughout Samangan, Balkh, Baghlan, Jawzjan, Kunduz, and Sari Pul provinces. Ongoing seismic risks have shaped population movements, restricted repair efforts, and complex assessments and response activities.

Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Online quotes will allow policyholders the chance to discover multiple insurance companies and check their prices. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily. Although drivers are recommended to not choose a policy just based on its price, drivers can easily sort quotes by insurance price.
