The midterm elections are underway, at least in the Republican stronghold of Texas. Early voting has begun in the primaries and Democrats are hoping to win the Texas Senate seat for the first time in more than 30 years. The election will have national implications: Texas is one of America’s political powerhouses, and Republicans here have dominated the national agenda on everything from immigration to the judiciary to redistricting. Retaking Texas could help Democrats check the House, Senate and Trump’s executive branch in a way they haven’t been able to do so far in his second term. It could also reschedule the 2028 presidential election. Justin and Anthony – who grew up in Texas and know its politics well – download the primaries, which are quickly becoming the most expensive in modern US history. On the Republican side, there is collapse and infighting as Sen. John Cornyn faces a serious challenge from Attorney General Ken Paxton.
