Donald Trump has said he started the war against Iran because it was the “last best option” to stop the country’s regime. Speaking at the White House for the first time since attacking Iran, the president said the US continues to conduct “large-scale combat operations”. More than 1,250 goals have already been achieved. Iran’s Red Crescent said at least 500 people were killed in Iran. Six US service personnel have been confirmed dead. Iran has continued its missile retaliatory strikes against US allies in the Middle East. Meanwhile, Israel has launched a series of strikes on what it said were Hezbollah targets in Lebanon, warning that military operations will not end until the threat is completely eliminated. Oil and gas prices have soared following Israeli and US attacks on Iran, and the regime’s retaliation has forced the shutdown of oil and gas facilities across the region and disrupted shipping in the main sea passage, the Strait of Hormuz. They warn that a protracted conflict in the Middle East could lead to a sustained rise in oil prices, fueling inflation and undermining global economic growth.
