President Trump Says He Can ‘Break’ the Iran War and Leave Another Police Region | BBC News

President Trump has said he is considering “ending” the war with Iran and letting other countries “police” the Strait of Hormuz. The strait has been closed following attacks on ships and other energy infrastructure. Trump said the US was getting “very close to meeting our goals” in the conflict. He reiterated earlier that the US does not use the Strait of Hormuz, so other nations that do so in the future will need to be “guarded and policed”. Writing in a post on the Truth Social platform, Trump said it would be an “easy military operation” for other countries. He wrote: We are very close to accomplishing our goals as we consider ending our major military efforts in the Middle East in relation to the Iranian Terrorist Regime… The Strait of Hormuz will be guarded and guarded as needed by the other nations that use it — not the United States! If they ask you, we will support those countries in their Hormuz efforts, but it would not be necessary after the Iranian threat is eliminated. Most importantly, the Military Operation will be easy for them.” Several countries have joined European nations, Japan and Canada in signing a joint statement saying they are ready to help ensure safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz.
