Thanks to the European Union, the International Rescue Committee in Myanmar provides humanitarian assistance to more than 120,000 people in 2025

YANGON, Myanmar, April 8, 2026 — In Myanmar, where conflict and disaster have left communities displaced and vulnerable, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) is providing a vital lifeline to those in need.

Thanks to a more than three-year project, funded by the European Union from March 2023 to April 2026, the IRC and its partners served more than 120,000 clients in 2025. Vital support includes life-saving primary health care services, mental health and psychosocial support, and support for survivors of gender-based violence.

“People living in displacement camps are worried because they cannot access basic needs – food, income or security,” said Sarah, a health advisor with the International Rescue Committee’s mobile health team in Myanmar. “Their livelihoods have been destroyed, creating extreme stress as they try to survive.”

Following the March 2025 earthquake, which destroyed roads and infrastructure, entire communities depend on humanitarian aid for basic services. In response to the earthquake, more than 50,000 people were reached in 2025 with comprehensive support funded by the European Union.

“As we approach the one-year anniversary of the devastating March 2025 earthquake, it is clear that programs such as EU-funded mobile health clinics and Safe Space for Women and Girls are critical to the survival of communities in Myanmar,” said Mohamed Riyas, Director of the International Rescue Committee in Myanmar. “The disaster was a grave reminder of how humanitarian aid provides a lifeline to communities when they are in urgent need.”
