Senator Sheldon Whitehouse recently gave a speech on the Senate floor criticizing Pam Bondi and the Department of Justice for not investigating alleged ties between President Trump, Jeffrey Epstein and Russia. It was viewed millions of times. Senator Whitehouse says Epstein could have passed so-called kompromat – dangerous material – to Vladimir Putin or other important Russian figures to Trump. And that, he says, could explain the president’s relationship with Putin, particularly during the war in Ukraine. President Trump has called the kompromat claims “fake news,” and previously said allegations of ties to Russia are “a hoax” and a “witch hunt” fueled by his political opponents. Vladimir Putin has also denied that Russia has any dangerous material on the US president. We wanted to hear from Senator Whitehouse about what it has been like for US politicians as they try to wade through the Epstein Files and deal with the Justice Department, which has been widely criticized for its handling of the files.
