Canarian Weekly – A 3.5 magnitude earthquake between Tenerife and Gran Canaria was felt by residents

An earthquake measuring 3.5 on the Richter scale was recorded between Tenerife and Gran Canaria, reports the National Geographic Institute (IGN).

The tremor’s waves were recorded yesterday, Thursday, at a depth of 19 kilometers in the underwater volcanic area known as Enmidio. Although some residents felt it, officials have not yet confirmed which areas saw the movement.

Part of ongoing seismic activity

This latest earthquake forms part of a series of recent seismic events detected in the same area. In February, IGN recorded a stronger earthquake measuring 4.1 at a depth of 10 kilometers. This tremor was widely felt and described as moderate in intensity.

Earlier, on October 21, 2025, another earthquake with a magnitude of 3.2 was detected during the early hours of the morning.

There is no link to TED’s activity

Despite the recent increase in seismic activity, experts have reassured the public that there is no cause for concern. INVOLCAN (Instituto Volcanológico de Canarias) previously confirmed that earthquakes in the Enmedio volcanic zone are not related to seismic swarms recorded around Mount Teide.

The authorities continue to monitor the situation closely. Earthquakes of low to moderate magnitude are relatively common in the Canary Islands and rarely cause any damage.
