President Trump has called the month-long ceasefire between the US and Iran “massive life support”. Describing Iran’s response to US proposals to end the war as “rubbish” and “totally unacceptable”, telling reporters: “We were sent this rubbish, I didn’t even finish reading it”, Iran outlined its demands to end the war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz in a counter offer sent to the US on Sunday. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei responded to Trump’s comments, calling Tehran’s proposals “responsible” and “generous.” Tehran’s offer includes an immediate end to the war on all fronts — referring to ongoing Israeli attacks in Lebanon against Iran-backed Hezbollah — an end to the US naval blockade of Iranian ports and guarantees of no further attacks on Iran, according to Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency. They demand compensation for war damages and emphasize Iran’s sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz. The US president said Iran’s leaders were “very dishonorable people”, adding: “Look, I’ve had to deal with them four or five times, they change their minds.” He also accused Iran of backing out of a US deal to end its supply of enriched uranium and insisted Iran would never have nuclear weapons.
