Preston Goode gets the San Jose Earthquakes back on track

As has often been the case this season, Preston Goode has been at the heart of their success.

“I’m not saying it’s his consistent work rate, I’m saying it’s his scoring,” Arena said after the Goode game.

“We will work with him to do more, but today he had 11 goals. That is very impressive.”

Back in the groove

The Earthquakes enter the World Cup break in second place in the Western Conference, equal on points (32) with the first-place Vancouver Whitecaps, who have a game in hand.

“If any team needs a break and deserves a break, it’s us,” Arena said. “We are very exhausted. We had a busy schedule in May, and we managed to survive.

“We’ve barely kept our heads above water, but I couldn’t be prouder of the group at this stage of the season.”

Despite this recent misfortune, the Quakes look like legitimate contenders after narrowly missing the 2025 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs.

“As I told the team, the second half of the season will be much more difficult than the first half,” Arena said. “So we have a ways to go.

“But it was a great effort from our guys in the first 15 games.”
