A 2.8 magnitude earthquake was recorded near Gig Harbor

GIG HARBOR, Wash. – A small 2.8 magnitude earthquake was recorded west of Gig Harbor on Wednesday.

What we know:

The quake occurred around 3:45 p.m. in the Wawona area, along Henderson Bay. The epicenter was about nine miles from Gig Harbor, about 13 miles south of Bremerton, and 15 miles from Tacoma.

The Pacific Northwest Seismic Network initially recorded the quake as a magnitude 3.0 earthquake, but its intensity has since been downgraded to a magnitude 2.8. No damage or injuries were reported.

About 15 people reported that they felt the earthquake, as of 5 p.m. on Wednesday. If you think you felt it, you can report it on the USGS website.

The last recorded earthquake in Washington occurred near Concrete on May 6, which also had a magnitude of 2.8.
