Detection of dates for other “earthquake” explosions at Croft Quarry

The company responsible for the county quarry undergoing demolition has revealed when residents expect to hear the next round of explosions.

Residents were alarmed and shocked when a massive explosion originating from Croft Quarry, near Hounkot, shook windows and doors last Wednesday, August 19, as many residents believed an earthquake had occurred.

The explosion was heard as far away as Leicester Forest East and Thorpe Estley.

Aggregate Industries, which operates the quarry, has apologized for the concerns raised by residents, and announced more explosions this week.

They have now revealed that the next explosion of “the demolition of an abandoned building” will happen on Thursday of this week (27 August), but it could also happen “on Wednesday or Friday depending on the circumstances of the day”.

Another explosion will take place during the week beginning on August 31, at “another site below the quarry”. The date of this explosion has not yet been announced.

In a letter to the office of Alberto Costa, Representative from South Leicestershire, the company again apologized for the concern over the explosion last week.

The message, from District Operations Manager Adrian Robinson, reads: “We are aware that the planned demolition that took place on Wednesday 19 August in Croft has disturbed some residents within the local area and we apologize for the concerns this raised.
