Earthquake shakes the morning of Jamaica The news episode

Jamaica was hit by a 4.5-magnitude earthquake, which people were said to have felt across the island around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Twitter exploded with memes and comments a few minutes later, with thousands of reports of the earthquake.

Tests with the Seismology Unit at the University of the West Indies confirmed the earthquake.

“We are currently measuring the strength of the earthquake. We will have more information later,” Raymond Stewart, analyst at the unit, told Loop News.

The United States Geological Survey reports an M4.5 earthquake 5 kilometers southeast of Alexandria, Jamaica.

Earthquakes have so far been reported in Kingston, St. Andrew, St. Anne, St. Mary, Portland, Clarendon, St. Catherine and St. Elizabeth.

It was the third aftershock to hit parts of the island, following the massive 7.7 earthquake in January that was felt by people far from the country’s shores.

Someone tweeted, “It’s 7.30 am and a #quake woke me up with my face reddened. Anyone else felt that ??”

Another joked, “May Mattress shakes him and begins to repent.”

Other Jamaicans reacted by posting notes on Twitter about their whereabouts when the earthquake struck.

“The earthquake was 7.28 in the morning… Kingston, Jamaica. Didn’t you feel it?” Susan Goofy said, “I did it in Liguana, two roars.”

Another user known as Sharon said: “I felt in South St. Elizabeth”.

Another user said “I felt in Port Antonio”.

One user said he was in Old Harbor and felt his house shook to the point that a picture fell from the wall.
