Mining companies donate money to the earthquake-stricken city

Filminera Resources Corporation and PhilGold Processing & Refining Corporation handed over 5.29 million pesos in cash plus 100 bags of rice and 50 folding beds to Katangan municipality, after an earthquake in Masbate. The donations were received by Mayor of Katangan Philip Kabatana, Deputy Mayor Thelma Ang and members of Sangonyang Bayan. Filminera and PGPRC also donated 1 million pesos in relief and building materials to neighboring Masbate municipalities, whose communities and families were severely affected by the earthquake. Katangan was the hardest hit by the earthquake, 6.6 on the Richter scale, on August 18, which shook the entire Masbate county. The epicenter was located at a distance of seven kilometers from Katyingan. Filminera Mine Site is located in Aroroy, 150 kilometers from Cataingan. In a recent weekend inspection, environmental experts from the Office of Mines and Earth Sciences (MGB) and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) visited the Filminera mine site in Aroroy, and stated at an exit conference that there had been no cases of property damage or injury to people at the mine site. . The conference was attended by stakeholders from the local community, local government units, Filminera and PGPRC representatives. Filminera President Cris Acosta noted that the inspection results simply confirmed the previous findings of GHD in-house technical experts and international third-party advisor that there had been no damage to structures and equipment. GHD has been a consultant for the Masbate Gold Project since 2007. GHD was initially contracted to carry out the detailed design of the Waste Storage Facility (TSF), and it also provides detailed design and construction supervision services for the TSF development. GHD also provides geotechnical assessments, sedimentation modeling, bridge design and analysis, mine site water balance modeling, and water treatment plant design.
