Iranian human rights activist and journalist Kourosh Sahti warned that millions of lives in Iran may be in danger due to the presence of a large amount of oil reserves near an active earthquake zone. Mr. Sahti highlighted the Tehran Oil Administration, which is located near the fault line, as an area that is at high risk of an explosion.

He warned that any potential explosion would be “worse” than the explosion of a devastating chemical warehouse, which killed more than 150 people and injured 5,000 others in Beirut, Lebanon.

Three oil administrations, including one in two months – located northwest of Tehran – have been identified as a possible cause of the disaster.

Tehran is home to some of the largest gas reserves with a capacity of 30,000 liters of oil distributed among 300 tankers.

When asked about the risks and the number of people who could be affected by any explosion, Mr. Sahti said, “There are at least three facilities in Tehran.

Two months in the northwest, Sohanak in the northeast, and irrigation in the southern part of the city.

“I can say millions. Much more than Beirut.”

Tehran City Council member Majid Farahani also highlighted fears of an earthquake leading to disaster in the region.

Mr. Farahani claimed that Iran is threatened with an explosion caused by a natural disaster hundreds of times a day.

He warned that “two months face danger 300 times a day, and no one pays attention to them.”

The capital, Tehran, is located on an active fault line known as Musha-Vasham.

Iran experiences thousands of low-level earthquakes every year, but several hundreds of earthquakes greater than four magnitude have been recorded.

In 2017, the Iranian Seismological Center (IRSC) recorded more than 16,000 earthquakes.

Fears of an explosion at a storage facility in Iran escalated after a warehouse storing ammonium nitrate exploded in Beirut on August 4.

The warehouse containing 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate exploded after the roof caught fire.

The blast sent shock waves across the city and shattered windows in the passenger terminal at Beirut International Airport, which is located five miles from the port.

According to the US Geological Survey, people felt the eruption across the Mediterranean Sea and was equivalent to a 3.3-magnitude earthquake.
