DSWD offers P1.41-M aids to Masbate earthquake victims

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has provided more than 1.41 million pesos in relief and financial assistance to victims of the 6.6-magnitude earthquake that struck Masbate County on August 18th.

DSWD Secretary Rolando Bautista went to Masbate personally to “oversee the provision of aid and ensure that all the needs of the affected families are met,” the ministry said in a statement.

During his visit to the worst-hit Katangan municipality on August 26, Bautista led the distribution of cash assistance worth 5,000 pesos to 35 families whose homes were completely damaged by the earthquake, and distributed food packages for families to the partially affected families. Buracan Community SLPA received P226,102.50 as livelihood aid for 14 recipients Buracan Egg producers received a check for P452, 205 to be delivered to 26 recipients.

Masagana Agrivet and Farm Supply SLPA, which includes 20 recipients, was granted P347,850 livelihood assistance.

According to management, the projects were funded through the Small Enterprise Development Pathway model – Basic Capital Fund (MD-SCF) of SLP, a livelihood project of DSWD.

The MD-SCF track focuses on starting, expanding or rehabilitating small enterprise activities and includes entrepreneurship, technical and vocational training, and soft skills, DSWD said.

“With the current epidemic, the ministry will continue to provide assistance to vulnerable sectors by providing appropriate interventions to preserve their basic needs and livelihoods,” she assured the public.
