In the United States, the acting head of Homeland Security has refused to send federal forces to resolve the violence in Portland, Oregon. A man was shot dead last night when Black Lives Matter protesters and President Trump sided with him. The city has become the focal point of police brutality and anti-racism demonstrations – since the killing of African-American George Floyd in May in Minneapolis by police sparked a wave of national and international violence.
