Earthquake shakes northwest Florida, Alabama; No damage was reported

Part of the Gulf Coast shook Thursday morning after a weak earthquake struck along the Alabama-Florida line.

The US Geological Survey said the quake occurred just after 11 a.m. EST, with its epicenter two miles northwest of Mount Carmel, Florida, north of Pensacola.

After an initial report of a magnitude 4.0 earthquake, the US Geological Survey lowered its magnitude to 3.8.

“We have received some reports of potential seismic activity from Santa Rosa Florida County and Escambia County,” the National Weather Service (NWS) office wrote in a mobile phone on Twitter.

And some residents in the area reported that they felt the earthquake.

The Escambian mayor’s office told the AP that it had not received any calls about the damage.

In Florida, earthquakes are very rare.

It was the last major earthquake in the state in a series of earthquakes recorded at roughly the same location in March of 2019, according to FOX13.
