A small Scottish village was hit by an earthquake measuring 1.3 on the Richter scale, according to the British Geological Survey (BGS).

Residents in Blackford, in Perth and Kinross, reported feeling a slight tremor at 3.29 pm on Wednesday, September 2, as the earthquake struck.

The BGS data showed that the tremor was caused by a tectonic movement 8 km below the surface of the Earth.

Blackford is located south of the highland fault line, where small earthquakes are not uncommon.

The village, nicknamed Shikitun, was hit by a magnitude 1.3 earthquake in 2015, and a larger earthquake in 2011.

In June, a 2.2-magnitude earthquake jolted the nearby village of Kumri, which is known to be seismic.

In 2016, figures revealed that Perth and Kinross were struck by an earthquake roughly every 12 weeks for nearly two years.
