HS2 work officially begins with the job commitment – BBC News
Boris Johnson stressed the high-speed rail link, HS2 is “essential” for the country, as it began the official construction of the railway project, which cost more than a hundred billion kilos. The first phase will see a 140-kilometer line from Euston in London to the new Curzon Street station in Birmingham. The second phase will then run services from north Birmingham to Manchester and Leeds. The prime minister says 22,000 new jobs will be created, but critics have warned that more jobs will be lost and environmental damage will be catastrophic.
