Lamine Diack: Former IAAF leader convicted of corruption and jailed – BBC News
Lamine Diack, the former head of the governing body of athletics, has been jailed after being found guilty of corruption. The 87-year-old Senegalese man has been accused of corruption and money laundering in connection with the Russian doping scandal. Diack was convicted of accepting bribes from athletes suspected of doping to cover the results of the test and for failing to continue competing, even at the 2012 London Olympics. He was sentenced to four years in prison, two of which were punished. Diack’s lawyers said he would appeal the verdict, calling it “unfair and inhumane.” Diack was also fined a maximum of € 500,000 (£ 456,928) for four years under investigation by French authorities for taking payments of more than € 3 million to cover up the fraud. The judge said his actions had “undermined the values of athletics and the fight against doping.” Diack has been under house arrest in Paris since November 2015. #BBCOS #BBCOutsidesource Subscribe HERE .
