Strong earthquake of 3.6 in Kashmir, strong tremors were felt in Srinagar

Residents felt strong tremors across Srinagar on Monday night after a 3.6-magnitude earthquake hit Jammu and Kashmir. No injuries or property losses were reported.

The National Seismology Center said the quake struck 5 km from the surface at 9.40 pm, with its epicenter in Srinagar.

Panicked residents rushed out of their homes after feeling strong tremors. The quake was also felt in the vicinity of Ganderpal and Bogham, according to NDTV. Some residents said they witnessed a prolonged shaking of the ground.

Initially, there were conflicting guesses about exactly what caused the tremors, with many social media users speculating that it was an explosion or an explosion. However, minutes after the earthquake was felt, Srinagar district judge Shahid Chaudhry said in a tweet that the earthquake was an earthquake and wished everyone safe.
