Tasmanian whale pilots: nearly 400 die in Australia’s worst disaster – BBC News
Authorities say about 380 whales have been killed in what is believed to be Australia’s biggest surprise. Hundreds of long-haired pilot whales have been found on the beach off the west coast of Tasmania since Monday. The rescuers managed to save 50 by late Wednesday, and the remaining 30 estimated whales were trying to help. Tasmanian government officials said the rescue efforts will continue “while the animals are alive.” “While they are still alive and in the water, there is still hope, but as time goes on they are more tired,” said Nic Deka, regional director of the Tasmanian Park and Wildlife Service. He added that attention will now be paid to the removal of the hundreds of corpses scattered along the coast. The cleanup plan is still being worked out – in the past the bodies were buried on the ground or taken to the open sea. #BBCOS #BBCOutsideSource Please subscribe HERE .
