Nepal Receives 1.54 Billion Nepalese Rupees “Post-earthquake Aid” from India!

To date, India has paid around $ 72 million in grants to Nepal to rebuild the housing sector.

As part of its commitment to aid and rehabilitation after the deadly earthquake in 2015, the Indian government provided 1.54 billion Nepalese rupees to Nepal on Thursday.

Namgyal Kampa, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu, handed over a check for 1.54 billion Nepalese rupees to Seshir Kumar Dungana, Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Nepal.

After the devastating earthquake that struck Nepal in 2015, which killed more than 9,000 people and damaged 800,000 homes, the Indian government has offered US $ 150 billion in grants and a line of credit to rebuild homes and educational institutions.

To date, India has paid around $ 72 million in grants to Nepal to rebuild the housing sector.

“India expressed its commitment to help rebuild 50,000 private homes in the Gorka and Nowakot regions, which were destroyed by the large earthquake in 2015. Among them, 92% of construction work has already been completed,” the Indian embassy said.

She added, “India remains committed to continuing to support the people and government of Nepal in the efforts to recover after the earthquake.”

Moreover, the Indian government has also allocated 50 million USD in grants to rebuild 70 schools and one library. So far, the Nepalese government has received 4.2 million USD.

Earlier, the Indian government also entered into a partnership with the United Nations Development Program and the United Nations Office for Project Services to help homeowners rebuild their homes to earthquake-proof standards.
