Covid-19 Update: New daily cases reach fewer than 1,000 marks, 64 more deaths

The Minister of Health, Zwaili Mkhize, announced that as of Saturday, September 26, the cumulative number of detected Covid-19 cases has reached 69,498 with 969 new cases identified.

The country also reported 64 more Covid-19 related deaths: 5 from the Eastern Cape, 4 from KwaZulu-Natal, 43 from Gauteng, 11 from Mpumalanga, and 1 from the Western Cape.

Parts of Cape Town were hit by a 6.2 magnitude earthquake

Residents of Cape Town were shocked on Saturday night, September 26th after some parts of the city were hit by a powerful earthquake.

According to the US Geological Survey, the magnitude of the marine earthquake was 6.2 on the Richter scale, and it originated 1,600 kilometers southeast of the country at a depth of 10 kilometers.

Mango Airlines flights will not be suspended

Previous media reports indicated that technical support for the low-cost airline Mango would be suspended due to non-payment, indicating disruption to the entire airline fleet.

It was understood that the entire airline fleet was expected to be shut down on Saturday due to alleged financial problems.

Mango Airlines spokesperson Sergio dos Santos said on the ENCA website that their flights will not be stopped as some media have reported.

Johannesburg Mayor Jeff Makhubo was among the large number of people celebrating the life of struggle champion Winnie Madikizela Mandela on Saturday.

Mandela, the ex-wife of former South African president Nelson Mandela, died in hospital after falling ill at the age of 81 in 2018.

Makhubu was among the many who turned to social media to send good wishes to the family and also to remember one of the most controversial personalities in the country.
