Coronavirus is “spreading rapidly” as millions more face local blockages – BBC News
A quarter of the UK’s population will be under local closure this weekend after announcing new cuts for two million more people in northern England. England’s Health Secretary Matt Hancock said the disease is “spreading rapidly” in some areas and is “very localized”. He considered the new rules challenging but necessary. The last areas affected are Liverpool City Region, Warrington, Hartlepool and Middlesbrough. In some areas there are 9 times more cases than the average in England. The new restrictions mean it will be against the law to mix with other homes at home, in the garden or in a pub or cafe. Those who break the rules can face heavy fines. There are also instructions not to confuse it with other houses in pub gardens, parks or sporting events. There are calls tonight for Scottish nationalist MP Margaret Ferrier to resign after she admitted to traveling by train from Scotland to London after developing Covid symptoms, and after returning positive after returning home. Nicola Sturgeon said they were “completely defenseless” when their actions were interrupted by Margaret Ferrier of the SNP.
