Kath Rollo, who lives on Murray Street in the village, said Sunday’s earthquake was the biggest she had felt.

“I never thought when I moved to Blackford that it would be the epicenter of earthquakes in the UK,” she said.

“It didn’t last long overall but it really shook the house.

“It felt like the ground was so badly messed up. It felt like a journey through the fairgrounds as it travels from side to side very quickly.

“It looked like we were transforming.”

At the Star Hotel on Auchterarder High Street, “People have definitely felt it,” said a staff member.

The British Geological Survey (BGS) recorded the earthquake at a depth of 6 km.

The WHO summary report said residents had felt it in Blackford, Ochtrarder, Bracko, Aprothfen, Gleneagles and Glendefon.

BGS said it had received reports including “shaking the windows,” “it looked like some kind of explosion,” “I heard a loud boom,” “we felt loudly, as if it was coming from under the house” and “it felt like someone was falling upstairs.” .

Blackford resident Bob Watkinson added, “This is the first time I have not slept. It looked like a truck had hit the side of the house. I had spoken to other people who said they went out to check if that had happened as well.”
