Youth capacity building is crucial to achieving the promise of sustainable development goals and the Global Strategy for the Health of Women, Children and Adolescents. Adolescents and young people are uniquely positioned to be effective advocates who hold their governments accountable for making promises, policies, and programs that impact their lives. Now, more than any other time, young people have the opportunity to ensure that every adolescent counts; and take measures to advocate for the health and well-being of adolescents.
PMNCH, in collaboration with key partners, will host a series of webinars with youth-led organizations and other stakeholders, to share knowledge and best practices around key areas identified by the constituency for adolescents and young people.

Although the COVID-19 crisis is primarily a physical health crisis, it also has the seeds of a major mental crisis. Psychological distress in populations is widespread. Many people are in trouble because of the immediate effects of the virus on health and the consequences of physical isolation. Emotional difficulties in children and adolescents are exacerbated by family stress, social isolation, and some face increased abuse, disrupted education, and uncertainty about their future, which occurs at critical points in their emotional development. The closure of schools added this tribute to social isolation and powerlessness. Urgent measures are needed to prevent an increase in the number and severity of mental problems and a long-term negative impact on the health and well-being of young people. WHO and PMNCH organized the first live series on “Adolescent Health and Welfare at the Time of COVID-19” to address the most pressing information needs of global adolescents during the COVID-19 pandemic. The theme of this event was focused on the reopening of a school attended by experts from WHO and UNESCO, along with the personal testimonies of a panel of young students.
