Russian President Putin has called for an end to the enemies of the Nagorno-Karabakh region – he said the fighting between Azerbaijan and Armenia is a tragedy – Iran has warned it could escalate into a wider regional war. The current struggle is the worst seen since the war between Azeris and Armenians in the 1990s. Under international law – the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh is Azerbaijan – but it is inhabited and ruled by ethnic Armenians.
