An online social media post conceived as a joke in April woke up in Osoyoos when it launched a police investigation.

RCMP spokesman Sgt. Jason Bayda says police were alerted today by concerned Osoyoos residents after posting on social media that claims an individual in Osoyoos could open the door to find households ready to receive seasonal workers.

Concerns over a request in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has led to orders over social and physical distance, have resulted in the Osoyoos RCMP launching a criminal investigation into the matter.

Bayda said police have discussed his concerns with the person he believes is responsible for creating the online post and called on that person to remove it.

The RCMP does not say whether any cost will be raised.

Police are asking the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious or criminal activity to the police as they continue their investigation into the matter.
