Northern England leaders warn the region will be “plunged into difficulties” without further assistance – BBC News
The mayors and community leaders in the north of England say the funding provided by the government is not enough to protect their communities from hardship as some parts of the country face tougher Covid-19 cuts. Andy Burnham, the mayor of Greater Manchester, warned that many businesses in the north were under a knife. Along with leaders in Liverpool and Sheffield, he warned that the region would face real difficulties without further financial support. The government is expected to announce a system of restrictions at each level, with areas with different rules depending on how quickly the cases spread.
