The final Platinum 4 game reveals the April Fool’s Day joke about Terra Cresta
The final new reveal of the game in the Platinum 4 release series is not really a new game, it’s just a weak April doll.
Over the years, the Internet has turned April Fool into a nightmare of misinformation and hopelessly rude jokes, so it’s hard to believe almost everything you read today.
We are not particularly sure what to make of the final new announcement of PlatinumGames, because even though they have admitted that April is a fool who seems to mean that Platinum 4 there were only three announcements.
The joke is that Platinum is doing a sequel to the 1985 Terra Crest banknote called Sol Crest. The original was already a forgotten shooter perpendicular to the scroll, similar to Xevious, and the video above indicates that Platinum will release the new game as an actual arcade cabinet – except of course it isn’t.
We’re not sure what all that helps, but given that Bayonetta creator Hideki Kamiya liked old-school 2D shooters and his famous weird sense of humor, we guess that was probably his idea.
Terra Cresta, plus the predecessor to Moon Crest, and several console-only extensions, originally made by the now defective Nichibuts. The rights are now owned by the Hamster Corporation, which is best known for its Arcade Archives series Emulated Coins.
They are referenced in the video, so Platinum obviously had some conversation with them, but the main one Platinum 4 website clearly refers to the whole thing as April and we don’t think there is any real intention to make the game.
This means that the whole Platinum 4 concept ended up being a bit overlapping, compared to the other three announcements one was just new studio and one is a reminder of Wonderful 101.
The G. G. Project it still sounds great and we are definitely trying it, but we are not sure that all the fans will be excited like this, expecting big new announcements, was a very reasonable idea.
Unless the real April Fool is the right announcement for tomorrow, but so far there is no indication.
