Publication of April Fool stories in the regular media is a good tradition, not a threat to national security.
Any media organization receiving the UK Government’s “D-Notice” – a warning that it may release information that could endanger national security – is bound to be treated seriously.
It is most unusual to ignore such a notice and move on with the announcement, but today the Scot feels compelled to do just that.
It is a long and good tradition of the mainstream media to publish April Fool stories for the amusement of readers and the government’s hard attempt to ban such stories – on a false basis that spreads what they call “fake news” during the coronavirus. crisis is a threat to national security – it must be resisted.
