Le Pen and Macron collide in crucial France election debate – BBC News

Two French presidential candidates are being held hostage for a televised debate over a long and bitter campaign. Centrist Emmanuel Macron has stated that his right-wing opponent Marine Le Pen’s strategy is a “lie,” while calling him a shameful “beloved of the system.”
Mr. Macron is doing very well in front of the polling station, though he may have reduced himself.
The goal of both candidates is to win 18% of undecided voters. For the first time, a candidate is not a major French party.
