Australian fires: Climate change increases fire risk – BBC News

 



Scientists in the UK say Australia’s latest fires will cause the world to rise in temperature.

Professor Richard Betts of the Met Office Hadley Center said that “we are seeing a sign of what would be a normal 3C world in the future.”

Although natural weather fires have caused recent fires, researchers say it is “common sense” that man-made heating plays an important role.

It was Australia’s hottest and driest year on record last year.

Researchers in the UK have looked at the impact of climate change on global fire risk. The latest major review of climate science was a study of 57 studies published since its publication in 2013.
