Reconstruction of Peabody Stadium enters the final lap
Workers began laying the track deck and walkways for the new Peabody Stadium at Santa Barbara High School. School officials expect to finish work by the end of this month.
Reconstruction of Peabody Stadium at Santa Barbara High School has been completed.
Workers have begun laying the oval track – another major obstacle to completion of the $ 39 million project.
“This week we started implementing self-leveling materials to eliminate even the smallest of faults,” said Steve Vizolini, director of facilities and modernization for the Santa Barbara School District. “They are now working on ‘D’ at the ends of the field where the throw and high jump and other events take place in track and field, and at the start of the straight section of the 100-meter dash.
“Then it will be the main track, then the tape.”
The lanes are in alternating colors of olive and gold, which have long been the colors of Santa Barbara High School.
“We expect to complete the track by the end of the month,” said Vizolini.
The remodeled stadium features a 2,300-seat concrete amphitheater and pressure box adding to the 1,110 aluminum seats that were added to the visitor’s side a quarter of a century ago.
Artificial turf has been replaced by artificial turf. Other parts of the project include new lighting and sound systems, as well as rainwater drains to serve neighboring neighborhoods.
Peabody’s New Path lanes feature alternating colors of olive and gold, which have long been the colors of Santa Barbara High School.
The groundbreaking ceremony took place on August 23, 2017 after the Santa Barbara High School Foundation raised $ 5 million for the new stadium. More than 800 donors have contributed. The rest of the funding came from Measure Q2010 bonds, developer fees, and government earthquake mitigation funds.
The danger posed by earthquakes has made replacing dilapidated, old, and concrete stadium a priority for school officials for many years.
The original Peabody Stadium was built in 1924 with a donation from Arrow Shirt mogul Frederick Forest Peabody. Ironically, it entered service just eight months after its completion when a 6.8 magnitude earthquake devastated downtown Santa Barbara. A company of US Marines that had been deployed to prevent the looting, had been there for several weeks.
In 1937, the stadium hosted the first California Inter-School Football match in Southern California in which Santa Barbara lost to Glendale, 15-14.
The Dons, who had five CIF titles to their credit, had to play the CIF Division 8 Final last year at Warkentin Stadium in San Marcos.
The last football match was played at Old Peabody Stadium on October 7, 2016.
The COVID-19 pandemic has forced CIF to delay the start of its next football season until January. The Dons are set to enter the new Peabody Stadium on January 8 against Saint Joseph Hay.

View photos The advantages of comparing online car insurance quotes are the following: Online quotes can be obtained from anywhere and at any time. Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Online quotes will allow policyholders the chance to discover multiple insurance companies and check their prices. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily. Although drivers are recommended to not choose a policy just based on its price, drivers can easily sort quotes by insurance price. Using brokerage websites will allow drivers to get quotes from multiple insurers, thus making the comparison faster and easier.
