World Health Workers Week – April 5
The COVID-19 pandemic and other global emergencies show us once again the heroic efforts of healthcare professionals who strive every day to keep their communities – and the world – safe and healthy. WHO and the Global Health Workforce Network are pleased to partner with civil society partners – the Frontline Coalition of Healthcare Professionals and its members – to pay tribute to healthcare professionals during World Health Worker Week: April 5-11, 2020. Eighth Annual World Health Workers Week is another opportunity to mobilize communities, partners and policy makers to increase support for healthcare professionals around the world.
The theme for 2020 is Leaders on the front line, This theme highlights the need to provide greater leadership opportunities for healthcare professionals in the first place, especially women health workers, who make up more than 70% of the global health workforce. At the same time, this topic emphasizes how healthcare professionals often express themselves on the line, often at great personal risk to themselves and their family, to save and improve lives.
We invite all stakeholders in the health workforce to join us in raising public awareness and addressing health workforce issues and to recognize the contribution of the life-saving health workforce. All activities will be filtered through Portal of World Health Worker Week, hosted by the Frontline Health Workers Coalition Secretariat at IntraHealth International.
