As the San Antonio Zoo celebrated local, national media on Day One of the Fools

The elephants at the San Antonio Zoo did not take to the San Antonio River this week, but many were fooled into believing that Asian landmarks were taking place in the city of Alamo.
The headlines and broadcasts of local media outlets and national ones, such as Brdo, Ondayda, thus shared images of elephants strolling through the park during the shutdown of coronaviruses. The sight of the huge animals playing in the San Antonio River delighted many, but it was all a joke from April.
The photos aren’t really from either San Antonio or the river.
In the last sentence of a lengthy Facebook post, the zoo told followers that they “had a wonderful April 1” and hoped the idea sparked a “smile during challenging times.” The comment was not included in press materials sent to the media. The information sent to the San Antonio Express-News does not explicitly mention the April joke, however the zoo says the photos included in the media were taken in the Kulen Elephant Forest in Asia, not in San Antonio.
While the zoo is home to Asian elephants Lucky, Karen and Nicole, affectionately referred to as the “Golden Girls”, the trio are not elephants in the photos featured in the press materials.
Both Hill and KSAT published articles detailing how individual zoo vendors received information in official communication to report them.

“We admit we fell for it for a few minutes, until the president and CEO of San Antonio Zoo, Tim Morrow, reached out and clarified, saying the zoo has a joke history at April Fool,” the KSAT article reads.
Facebook fans were delighted with the photos and disappointed that the walks didn’t actually happen. Some have asked if the zoo can manage to do something similar while visitors are away from home.
The zoo was not immediately available for comment, but they stated on Twitter that they participate in April jokes “every year.”
The zoo is not the only one that has tried to attract the fast-paced through social media on the prankster holiday. New Braunfels magazine shared a link to a headline claiming that Wurstfest, a popular fall event, was canceled for 2020. Readers who clicked on the link for “the whole story” were made aware of the message “GOTCHA.”
