Stephen Kessler | Waiting for the electoral apocalypse – Santa Cruz Sentinel
Remember Y2K? Around this time in 1999, there was a lot of talk among technocrats about what would happen to the global systems programmed in the 20th century when the clock struck midnight in the 21st.
The theory went that the double zeros of 2000 would confuse the devices humanity has come to rely on and computers all over the planet would suffer an unimaginable breakdown of information. A virtual civilization, enslaved by its ingenuity and helpless when its most intelligent hardware is disabled, will effectively freeze. The new year will be ground zero for human digital death – and who knows, it might be kind of a fresh start.
Well, the New Year entered without Armageddon, and while the new millennium was in its first two decades, records were set for natural and man-made disasters and disasters, and the world as we knew it would never be the same, like this writing still exists and has not ended. The Four Horsemen in our Apocalypse – COVID-19, Depression, Climate and Despot – ride roughly over the majesty of our purple mountains and poison our vast skies from the sea to the height of the sea. However, the Earth rotates and its occupants are dizzy with fear of what to expect next.
Like January 1 2000, November 3, 2020, it has a frightening feeling of the end – or worse, the absence of the end – so it may mark the end of something and possibly the beginning of something else. That we don’t know what that would make it even scarier, and more hopeful. It could mark the beginning of a new chapter in the drama of American democracy, a great awakening, recovery from and reinvention of the collective self after a four-year nightmare, each day surpassing one before in a terrible atrocity, from which we must now rebuild our hijacked and shattered republic.
Or things could get worse, depending on any of the many scenarios, and the result, regardless of the actual outcome of the election, could be another four years of mob rule by the crime family whose achievements may outweigh Caesar or Stalin in their epic atrocities and tragic casualty numbers. Those of us who have questionable luck surviving this disaster will continue to live, like it or not, and will resist, corrupt, or somehow adapt to the disastrous reality of a strong psychopath with the help and instigation of a politically and morally bankrupt union of insane authority. Enabling factors.
So it might be a good idea to prepare an emergency bag, just in case the worst happens in the form of fire, ice, earthquake, flood, endless epidemic, economic devastation, customary law or civil war, and keep the bag light and portable. -For necessities only (flashlight, toothbrush, face mask, Tao Tieqing) because where they’re stranded there won’t be anywhere else to go – no romantic alienated to Paris, no escape from a backyard bomb shelter, no place to hide from the column Poison flowing from the mouth and Twitter fingers from the main megaphone – and you have to make the most of what you have left, governed by the whims of the weather, the gods are putting us in hell only for the sake of hell it is, or worse, by the whims of the adachik who only follow orders And they’re drunk with their testosterone.
The weird thing is, no matter what happens, things can get a lot weirder, but no matter how weird that might be, we will probably still be here trying to figure out what to do by ourselves under the circumstances. It is gratifying to know that people of goodwill are everywhere and in the majority. Starting at where we stand, we will form teams of cooperatives dedicated to reinventing freedom, reimagining love, rebuilding democracy, creating medicines, planting gardens, and writing songs. We will not have a choice like after any other disaster. We’ll play our hand. In our little ways we’ll try to make things a little better.

The car insurance industry hasn't remained untouched by these changes. On the internet, drivers can compare insurance prices and find out which sellers have the best offers. View photos The advantages of comparing online car insurance quotes are the following: Online quotes can be obtained from anywhere and at any time. Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Online quotes will allow policyholders the chance to discover multiple insurance companies and check their prices. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily. Although drivers are recommended to not choose a policy just based on its price, drivers can easily sort quotes by insurance price. Using brokerage websites will allow drivers to get quotes from multiple insurers, thus making the comparison faster and easier.
