Leveraging public financial management for better health
In 2019, the WHO organized a series of webinars on public financial management (PFM) in health issues. The series included six sessions on key topics of public financial management – from budget formulation to budget execution and monitoring – and included a range of well-established experts from the WHO, the World Bank, the OECD, the International Budget Partnership and Development Outcomes, as well as experts from countries. from the health and financial authorities. The webinar series was successfully followed by 500 registrants working on the health system and funding in the country.
In 2020, the WHO made the recorded sessions of the webinar series available to the public. With the permission of various contributors, the files are converted into 30-minute video podcasts. They cover the following six topics on public funding:
1) Introduction – The role of public financial management functions and reforms from a health sector perspective
2) Budget formulation issues in the health sector: key issues for policy makers
3) Budget Execution Issues in the Health Sector: Policy Challenges and Responses
4) Links between budget reforms and provider payment systems: what is it about?
5) Accountability: financial transparency and accountability to sectoral results
6) Preparation of health budgets in transferred conditions.
